The question has often been asked “Why is it that Eskimos (who eat a high fat diet) have a very low incidence of heart disease when they follow their traditional food intake?”

Some twelve years ago, Dr.John Dyerberg and H.O.Bang at the Alberg hospital in Holland, began investigating the relationship between Eskimos living in Greenland and Eskimos who had moved to Eastern Canada, where they ate the same diet as the Canadians. On examining the incidence of heart disease in the Eskimos, they discovered that it went up to the level of the Canadians within one generation. This finding led them tot eh conclusion that the Eskimos’ protection against heart disease was not necessarily related to genetics, but must have been an unknown factor in their diets protecting their cardiovascular systems.

Most of the fat in the Eskimos’ diet is obtained from the oil of cold water animals. It was suspected that there must have been a factor in the oil which helped protect them against heart attack. After a great deal of chemical investigation of the oils in the Eskimos’ diet, it was found that there was high concentration of an unusual oil which was derived from fish, it was classified in the Omega-3 class. This Omega-3 oil is apparently produced by small algae that live in the ocean and has been passed up through the food chain where it is concentrated in the tissue of higher cold water fish.

It was suspected that the Omega-3 oil might protect humans against the clumping and unwanted stickiness of a type of blood cell called a platelet. The sticking together of platelets may lead to the formation of small clots which can trigger heart attacks, strokes or blockages in other arteries of the body. After further examination of the Green land Eskimos, it was found that their blood cells contained a very high concentration of the Omega-3 oils and further research indicated that the Omega-3 oils are used within the body to produce a substance called prostacyclin, which actually prevents platelets from sticking together.

Lecithin and high blood pressure

The incidence of Liver damage is increasing at an alarming rate. Inadequate diets, including huge quantities of soft drinks, contribute tot his condition. Toxics substances such as drugs, food additives, preservative, Nitrates from chemical fertilizers, D.D.T. and other pesticides, etc are also responsible for harming the liver. Liver damage is common with alcoholics, social drinkers and people who are overweight.

Fatty deposits have a way of building up inside the Liver, resulting in hundreds of functions being slowed down or blocked, which throws the whole body into a state described as poor health.

Cholesterol, a wax-like substance, is a fact material that clings to the walls of the arteries. Our bodies manufacture cholesterol when we need ti, we manufacture more of it when we are under stress and when our diets are faulty. When there is an excess of cholesterol, the arteries become clogged, lose their elasticity and impede the natural flow of the bloodstream. Lecithin helps to dissolve the thick porridge-like clumps of Cholesterol that strangle the arterial system.

In his book, “The low fat way to health and longer life’, Lester M Morrison, M.D., calls Lecithin “one of the most important nutritional substances developed in the last fifty years, an especially valuable bulwark against hardening of the arteries and all the complication of heart, brain and kidney that follow.” Your body has 56,000 miles of blood vessels through which tons of blood are pumped every living moment of your life. If the arteries become stiff and hardened, your heart is forced to strain and pump that much harder. Such a strain on your heart is dangerous. Medical statistics show that more than half of all deaths can be traced to Arterial disease. Clogging of the arteries causing high blood pressure, blood clotting (the first stage of a stroke and many other side effects.

Lecithin

What is this dynamic substance, called ‘LECITHIN”? It is a fat-like substance, known as a “Phospholipid” produced daily int eh Liver if the diet is adequate. It is known that Lecithin manufactured by the body comes from eating unrefined and unprocessed foods.

Lecithin, pronounced LESS-I-THIN, plays a most important role inhuman metabolism. It is present in every cell in the body and is needed for the growth and renewal of all cells. It is particularly abundant in the Brain and Nerve Cells. The Heart, muscles, kidney, bone marrow, spinal cord and liver all contain Lecithin. Lecithin is also present in the Endocrine Glands and especially the Gonads.

Lecithin appears naturally in egg yolks and is a natural by-product of the process of extracting oil from soybeans. When soybeans are pressed, a golden colored oil separates from the protein part of the bean and when this virgin oil stands for some time, a yellow substance settles down to the bottom of the container - this substance is Lecithin.

Spirulina

Spirulina is derived from the Latin word for “spiral”. It has been utilized as an everyday food in both Mexico and Africa since ancient times. Spirulina is a member of the plankton family. The term “plankton’ is reserved for those cells which forage for their nourishment entirely by drifting passively in a medium. Spirulina is part of that major plant group of algae called phyto-plankton. Nutritive analysis revealed that it contained 69.5% protein, 12.5% complex sugars (carbohydrates), 8% fat, plus many vitamins, amino acids, minerals and food colorations.

Spirulina has a soft, thick, cellular membrane and is exceedingly digestible. In fact, digestibility tests have shown that its rate of digestion is about 95%. Spirulina likes to grow at the preferred temperature of 95% to 98%, the same as human blood. It may not be without accident that the porphyrin molecule, which is the purrole-shaped nucleus of the Chlorophyll structure, is also the same prophrin nucleus of the hemoglobin molecule of the red cells of human blood.

It is remarkable that these two factors common to both blood and spirulina are identical. This may also account for spirulina’s rapid assimilation into the human body and its rapid conversion of its amino acids into glycogen int eh liver. The energy rush felt by joggers and athletes from eating Spirulina can take place almost within minutes of indigestion this powerful nutrient.

Healing Properties of Propolis

Russian Doctors, A.I.Tichonov and D.P. Salo, in their book “The healing Properties of Propolis”, relate its successful use in the U.S.S.R.

During the last 17 years, these doctors have conducted over seventy studies of Propolis. They say: “When Propolis is taken internally, the rate of metabolism is increased and the resistance of the organisms to the influence of unfavorable factors from the outside world is raised.” What the Russian Doctors are really saying is that Propolis acts to stimulate the immune system of the body.

Propolis has been reported to be effective in helping to deal with a wide variety of infections and illnesses, including, upper respiratory diseases, influenza, hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis, radiation damage, stress, colds, pharyngitis, periodontal problems, enteritis, ulcers, asthma and diarrhea.

Dr. Remy Chauvin, the worlds leaving authority on bee Therapy, was recently interviewed in Paris. “Today”, he said, “with the over-use of anti-biotics, bacteria are developing a marked resistance to their claimed benefits. Infections are on the increase and some diseases - formerly not contagious - are becoming highly transmittable. The anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties of Propolis work to raise they body’s natural resistance to disease by internally stimulating one’s own immune system. The word propolis is derived from the Greek:

Pro - for or in defence and

Polis - the city,

that is, the defence of the city (or the hive).

What is Propolise? Propolis, sometimes called bee glue, is a resinous material gathered by bees from the leaf buds and bark of trees especially Poplars.

Propolis contains important vitamins, especially the B group, minerals, falvonoids, amino acids and bee pollen. Bees use it as a ‘cement’ to line the walls of the hive,to seal cracks and holes, to repair and strengthen every corner of the hive and make the entrance weather-tight.

In a densely crowded hive without some sort of anti-biotic protection, 50,000 or 60,000 bees crawling over one another would die of infection - the power of Propolis to fight infection and keep the bees free from bacterial disease is incredible.  Some scientists say that the inside of teh hive is more sterile than a hospital.

A concentration of flavonoids contributes to significant anti-biotic affects of propolis. A variety of flavoboids (found in plants or organisms capable of photosynthesis) are present in a highly concentrated form in propolis.  Human cells are unable to manufacture flavonoids. They must be obtained in the diet exclusively from fruits and vegetables. They are mainly concentrated in the peel or skin and outer layers of the flesh of fruits.

Due to their high concentration in Propolis, research has shown that flavonoids are responsible fro the major anti-biotic effects of propolis.  The major known effects of system, on the fragility of blood vessels and on the circulatory system in general.

Flavonoids act as diuretics and increase bile production.  Flavonoids have anti-coagulant, anti-virotic, anti-parasitic and anti-bacterial effects.  It is believed that the action of flavonoids aids the prevention of rapid oxidation of vitamin C.  This results in the strengthening of the body’s own defences against infection and disease.

Homeobotanical remedies - part 2

Perhaps the most promising Homeobotanical remedy used in massage and manipulative work is known as homeobotanical Trauma (injury). This was especially developed for use with sports injuries and has proved its worth on many occasions. The components are Arnica 5x, Ruta grav., Marigold (Calendula), Yarrow (Millefolium), St, John’s Wort (Hypericum) and Echinacea. The Arnica is potentised to 5x to avoid the toxicity complications of these remedies in higher concentrations. Arnica is specific for physical trauma and shock and is recommended for dislocations, contusions, fractures, strains, sprains and haematomas etc. Ruta is specific for periosteal trauma and eases discomfort after manipulation.

Comfrey was a major component to facilitate bonding of damaged tissues but changes in regulations have now prohibited its use internally. Marigold and Yarrow staunch internal haemorrhage and sped epitheliation in wounds. St John’s Wort reduces excessive pain and prevents tetanus in punctured wounds. Echinacea is include to further reduce the possibility of septic processes.

Homeobotanical remedies - part 1

Touch for health or Applied Kinesiology is being used to extend the way these remedies can be used for healing. Some early applications of Homeobotanical remedies to spiritual healing and auric cleansing are being made. Therapists working with massage and manipulation use these remedies to reduce pain, promote deep relaxation and reinforce their healing endeavors throughout the body.

In clinical practice, the Homeobotanical remedies are being used in as many ways as there are practitioners because the system lends itself to individual applications. As a “core therapy”, the remedies are so easily prescribed and dispensed, they are being used as the basis of treatment for practitioners of acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathy, osteopathy, naturopathy, psychotherapy, classical herbals, orthomolecular therapy and a whole spectrum of esoteric healing techniques.

In practice, the combination RG which allows for rheumatic and arthritic neuralgia has proved to be a valuable adjunct to manipulative treatment.

Natural animal care

HorseA family with a history of sore throats was all given a small pack of the correct Homeobotanical. Within a month, each member of the family reported complete healing and have not experienced a recurrence. The father asked jokingly if there was anything could be done for his cows with mastitis. The same remedy was suggested and within days the astonished farmer reported all his cows had recovered.
